Whether we’re talking about a political drama like Kanamachi or a full on masala flick like Khoka 420, the ‘love’ aspect has always been central. Perhaps this is an excuse to showcase the beautiful leading ladies starring in these movies or perhaps these directors want to reflect upon the yearnings of the contemporary Indian soul, almost every mainstream Indian movie has this aspect to it.

Movies like these make money. Their soundtracks are often lucrative and their leads are put on pedestals and elevated to sex icon status.
